In 2016/2017 academic year, NUGS-UCC under the leadership of Mr Awortwi embarked on agenda 18,000 exercise books.
This agenda was an act of soliciting for 18,000 exercise books and in turn distribute it across some deprived basic schools in and around the University.
This agenda has been adopted by subsequent Local NUGS administration.
This year, NUGS-UCC under the captaincy of the affable president, Mr Ebow planned on soliciting for 20,000 exercise books to be distributed to some basic schools within the Cape Coast Metropolis, paying more attention to basic schools in the university community.
The collection of the books were from individual volunteers and also the various halls on campus.
The books were donated to Imam Khomeini Islamic JHS located in Amamoma. The local NUGS secretariat was accompanied by the SRC Vice President of the University of Cape Coast, Madam Yvonne Ashong. She made the first presentation of the books and stated, ” we bring this books to you in the form of motivation to encourage you to study harder and demonstrate how the habit of giving helps others.”
The local NUGS president, Mr Ebow Mensah Acquah, when addressing the students stated that the agenda was meant to improve the education of the basic school and urged the students to study hard in order to be in positions in the future to contribute their quota to the development of the nation.
The headmaster and students of the school expressed great gratitude to the executives of the SRC and local NUGS for the contributions and encouraged frequent acts of that nature.
The head prefect of the school also added that the school lacks many basic infrastructures and calls on all stakeholders to direct state resources and attention towards improving their educational conditions.
