The man accused of fatally stabbing actor Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter has finally been sentenced for the crime.
According to Fox News, prosecutors say 33-year-old Lamar Davenport stabbed his girlfriend E’Dena Hines multiple times back in August 2015 while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. During his sentencing hearing on Thursday, he apologized for committing the crime and said: “I don’t remember what happened.”
However, during the hearing, the convicted man’s mother made the shocking allegation against the Hollywood star.
“Morgan Freeman molested her and he caused this. He did this,” Davenport’s mother screamed as she was ushered out of a court in New York. “He’s innocent. It was an accident,” she added, according to Mirror UK.
Freeman, 80, has denied those claims. But, he did release a statement after her death and said: “The world will never know her artistry and talent.”
Hines was an aspiring actress and actually got a small role in the movie “5 Flights Up” along with Freeman and Diane Keaton.
On Thursday, Davenport was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. He was also given an additional five years of post-release supervision. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. also paid tribute to Hines after the sentencing. He said:
“Ambitious and driven, E’Dena Hines was deeply loved by family and friends before her life was brought to a horrific and tragic end by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport.
“I would like to thank the prosecutors in my office for securing a prison sentence commensurate with his extraordinarily violent crime, and offer my sympathies to Ms Hines’ loved ones as they continue to mourn.”
