No Breakage This Harmattan! Look Sharp And Join The Movement!

Once the harmattan season comes, the dryness, the coolness and the dust sets in. This weather is quite irritating due to the dust particles suspended in the air making it heavier than normal. Due to the little amount of water in the atmosphere, there is an increase in the spread of infections and diseases such as Asthma, cough, catarrh, bronchitis, pneumonia and rheumatism.

The dry weather doesn’t just cause an increase in our vulnerability to diseases but also causes our skin and hair to dry up quickly.

The harmattan season really is no fun for our hair. This season tends to dry out our hair much faster causing it to break and making it difficult to retain any amount of moisture.

Taking care of the hair during harmattan must be done consciously. It’s good to find a routine that works for you and stick to it. Let’s look at some ways to care for the hair during this season of dryness.

1. Protective Styling

Yaaaasss sis! Protect your haaaiiirr!! This weather will mess your hair up and all the work you put into it this year will go to waste! If you don’t have time like some of us to keep moisturizing and giving extra care to your hair, then protective covering is your calling.

If you don’t want to endure heat in a weave on just get a wig cap. After all, those ones help you care for your own hair since you would be removing the cap; meaning, you can moisturize and even wash the hair every other week as you deem fit. If you think the weaves are expensive, don’t forget about braids. Braids also work in keeping the hair protected so look sharp.

2. Co-Wash

This is short for “conditioner-only washing.” It means skipping shampoo and relying solely on conditioner. Co-washing is great for keeping your hair moisturized without stripping the natural oils. If you use a cleansing conditioner on your hair, you can wash the hair more frequently than you used to do when washing with shampoo.

3. Deep-conditioning Regularly

Deep-conditioning helps lock moisture in your hair. It adds shine to the hair, strengthens it and keeps it moisturized so make sure you do it at least once a week this time

4.  Increase your water intake

Everyone should be able to take in at least 8 glasses of water a day so the Harmattan season should be definitely more. Drinking more water helps in having healthy skin, hair and nails. Your hair will definitely thank you for it.

5. Staying Away From Heat

Heat helps style the hair easier but it will be detrimental to the life of your hair. Stay Away!! Flee!!!

6. Spray Bottle

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water and oils or anything that works for hair really. Remember, it’s harmattan so your hair WILL DRY OUT quicker than usual. So get a cute spray bottle and keep in your purse so you can spritz some on your hair anytime.

7. Protect the hair at night

Yes, girls just twisting your hair to sleep is not enough. Do you know what your pillowcase and everything else on your comfy bed is doing to your hair??? It’s sucking the moisture out of your hair!! You think wearing a hair net is enough?? No babes, it’s not. You either need a satin pillowcase or bonnet to keep your moisturised hair still moisturized!! If you don’t own one, now’s the time to get one!!
