Live Page: KNUST Students Take On School Authorities In A Massive Demonstration

Last Saturday’s clash between Katanga residents and security personnel at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology was the final nail in the coffin.

In a series of decisions, the KNUST management team seem to have aimed at limiting the freedoms students enjoyed on campus.

Before they placed a ban on vigils, the school had controversially changed all 6 single-sex halls into mixed-sex halls.

A KNUST student was also suspended for allegedly sleeping in a girls’ room.

As we reported earlier that a number of KNUST students were allegedly assaulted by campus security after they attempt to hold a peaceful vigil.

The students regarded the assault as an attack on their basic rights and to register their displeasure, they have decided to embark on a demonstration on campus and boycott lecturers as well.

It is being reported that some security personnel have been dispatched to the campus to maintain law and order on the campus as the students agitate against school authorities.

Meanwhile, what was initially planned as a peaceful demonstration turned destructive when students went on a vandalizing spree.

School buildings and vehicles among others have been vandalized.

However, it’s not as it seems. The beats roster is far from a literal beats roster. Beats in security means when and where an officer is supposed to patrol.
