A reportage by Ghanaweb on Friday, 5th October 2018 made an unsubstantiated allegation accusing UDS Student Representative Council (SRC) of organizing a ‘sex party’ to Welcome Freshers. The said event was on the 28th of September, 2018 dubbed Jersey on Jeans organized by the UDS Nyankpala campus SRC.
The SRC however, after learning about this reportage found it disturbing. It was described as “false” in a circular released and signed by the Public Relations Officer, Odonkor Emmanuel.
KuulpeepsUDS in our quest to uncover the truth and report the facts, contacted the UDS Nyankpala Campus Public Relations Officer who was unavailable at the time. However, his vice, Mainoo Otuo-A. Edison addressed our news team. The vice PRO started by stating clearly that the SRC is very aware of the school’s principles guiding students’ conduct on campus and would never, in the discharge of their duties, go against the morals of the school.
According to the vice PRO, SRC programs of the like have always had their venue being the UDS Nyankpala Campus auditorium, but this time around the auditorium had lightening problems. The council therefore thought this was going to compromise security and hence the rather important decision of the council to change the venue. This he said, was to further prop the council’s willingness to operate without breaching any rules.
Mr. Edison also stated that, no sexual events as stated in the spurious reportage actually occurred during the . event. Adding that all students present at the event can attest to the fact that, nothing like that happened.
He added that after the first reportage, it had come to his notice that other media houses were reporting the same information, without finding out from the SRC what really happened. He entreated all media outlets or hubs to in the future confirm stories before reiterating.
As keen as the SRC may be to clear its name, Mr Mainoo Otuo-A. Edison concluded cautioning students and the general public to refrain from such deceitful posts that seek to trigger unwarranted disaffection for the Student Representative Council.
