Kevin Okyere: This 38-Year-Old Entrepreneur Running A $1 Billion Oil Company Is Sponsoring The Education Of These Girls

Kevin Okyere

Growing up in the 90s, one big educational campaign that was being championed was the girl child education.

For which Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey’s quote, “if you educate a man you educate an individual but if you educate a woman you educate a whole nation,” served as its mantra.

However, decades down the line, there are still more men with formal education than women, though Ghana’s population has more women than men.

One person who is hoping to change that is Kevin Okyere, whose inspiring story about how he was able to build a billion dollar company in a first world dominated oil and gas industry recently went viral.

With his accumulated wealth also comes his sense of duty to help others and supporting worthy causes that help to build a better society for all, irrespective of one’s background.

In an Instagram post, Kevin took great pride in being able to help sponsor the education of young brilliant yet underprivileged girls to acquire an education from the African Leadership University – a place they wouldn’t have even dreamt off.

“Congratulations to these bright ladies who have won the Mandela Centennial Scholarship. The objective of the Mandela Centennial Scholars Programme is to honour President Mandela’s legacy and carry forward the important work he began in education by giving the opportunity to 100 outstanding young Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend African Leadership University,” he wrote on Instagram to his growing number of followers.

“Here are the four ladies supported by #akuakuenyehiafoundation. It’s a pleasure to be able to sponsor these girls and witness their dreams come true. My only request is that they contribute back to society and make an impact on social change,” he said.
