Guess what… we now have gay penguins!
So, a fight broke out at a zoo after a gay penguin couple took a chick whose mum and dad had left it unattended.
The baby’s parents had both gone for a swim so, seeing their opportunity to become dads and wanting to look after it, the penguins turned to ‘kidnap’ it.
According to Mirror, Sandie Hedegård Munck, an animal keeper at Odense Zoo in Denmark, told a local broadcaster: “I could see that something was completely wrong.
“The parents disappeared and the kid was simply kidnapped. It was a pair of gay males who had snatched it and was stood with it.”
Sandie explained she believes the mother penguin had gone for her daily bath and didn’t come back in time for the dad’s swim.
He, too, went off for a paddle, forgetting all about the baby being on its own.
Sandie said: “When they saw him alone they probably thought ‘that’s too bad, we’ll snatch it.”
Oddly, the parents at first didn’t seem too bothered about their little baby penguin being kidnapped.
“I expected the parents would return and demand the child back, but the male was strutting around like he’d never had a kid,” she said.
The female penguin was apparently much more protective over her young than the father and could even become aggressive if zookeepers got too close.
The penguin parents had a whole day off from taking care of their newborn leaving it with the kidnappers -before eventually confronting them.
A video posted to the zoo’s Facebook page captured the moment a fight broke out between the birds as they argued over the baby.
The newborn was eventually returned to its parents but, seeing how desperate the gay penguin couple were to nurture a baby, zookeepers decided to give them an egg from a mum who couldn’t look after it.
