TTU: Meet Ally, The Brain Behind Ally’s Kitchen

A new taste for our taste buds started this semester, in the form of Ally’s Kitchen. This new food sensation sends our buds into a frenzy with each morsel. We met up with the brain behind Ally’s Kitchen, Alahare Agambire.

Kuulpeeps: Hello Ally.

Ally: Hi guys.

Kuulpeeps: To start with, what motivated you to start Ally’s kitchen?

Ally: I got the motivation to start Ally’s Kitchen after a visit to BU campus one night. I noticed that the students there had a variety of food vendors every night, but upon arriving at the main campus, it was the exact opposite.

I took it upon me to rescue the students from this dilemma.

Kuulpeeps: How long ago was this?

Ally: This was in the first year, but due to various activities, lectures and the lack of resources, I had to put it on hold until now. As the saying goes, the future is now! After completing my HND program, I got the chance to make my dream a reality

Kuulpeeps: what are some of the challenges you face?

Ally: Well, there are quite a number of challenges. There’s a lack of funds for bulk purchases. Due to this, I have to fall on the sales of the previous night. I give out free drinks in addition to every sale, but when someone buys a meal of GH₵5 it is very hectic.

Currently, I don’t have enough money to hire labour to help me out so I do everything with one or two friends.

Kuulpeeps: How much do you spend on a menu each day.

Ally: About GH₵500 a day depending on the menu.

Kuulpeeps: wow, how do you balance lectures, national service and this?

Ally: It’s not easy o lol. Combining national service, lectures and business is very tiresome. I begin work at 7 am and close at 3:30 pm. I then rush home to prepare the day’s meal and finish at 5 pm, then transport the food and set up shop before 6 pm.

On the weekends I attend lectures (B-TECH) and gets my ingredients for the coming week.

Despite all of the challenges, I’m unfazed and I strive to keep the dream going.

Kuulpeeps: What plans do you have for the future?

Ally: Well, I plan to establish Ally’s Kitchen at the various schools as well around Takoradi and also take orders for special occasions and programs within and outside the campus. You know, things of the such.

Kuulpeeps: What advice do you have for others who might have innovative plans on campus and beyond?

Ally: My little advice would be don’t give up. It won’t be easy at first, but your hard work will eventually pay off.

Kuulpeeps: Thanks Ally for your time and all the very best in your endeavours.

Ally: Thanks for having me Kuulpeeps.
