Photos: #SMWAccra Has Been Launched

Social Media Week 2018 was launched today at the Accra Mall Food Court.

The theme for this year’s Social Media Week Accra is “Closer”.

Anita Erskine was the MC for the day.

The welcome address was given by the C.O.O of EchoHouse, Mr. Bright Ayaaba. He said that it is necessary for Africa to own the next generation of platforms and package African content to meet world standards.

 

In attendance were Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Cyril Gockel, CEO of Pulse Creatives, Victor Bannerman-Chedid, Head of Products and Services, Vodafone, Denise Asare, Marketing Manager of Accra Mall Limited and Mohammed Adjei Sowah.

Denise Asare, Marketing Manager of Accra Mall Limited also stated that they are happy to partner Social Media Week Accra because Accra Mall is center of connectivity where people engage in social experiences.

Victor Bannerman-Chedid, Head of Products and Services of Vodafone said the use of social media is all part of customer experiences and building a business, saying “Companies that are not addressing their customers online are losing business.”

He added that the role of social media in national development is bigger than we think.

Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority said it is important for us to use social media to market Ghana abroad and we should make sure we share real content for people to believe what we share on social media. 

The Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah also reechoed Mr Agyeman’s sentiment and said that it is important to put out the right content on social media. This is more relevant now especially in the era of fake news and alternative facts.
