For his commitment to helping people acquire quality education, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of East London.
The Chancellor and the Chair of the Board of Governors from the University of East London conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Education upon His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in a ceremony held in London yesterday.
According to the university, this honour was given to Otumfuo because since he became the 16th occupant of the Golden Stool on 16 April 1999, he has created programmes to help people throughout Ghana.
These programmes, they said, are particularly focused on education, health, poverty, conflict resolution and the development of traditional leaders.
His Otumfuo Educational Fund has provided scholarships to tens of thousands of Ghanaian students. The foundation has also provided money to schools, allowing for new classrooms and furniture, housing for teachers, computers, books, and school uniforms.
Clad in a beautiful royal Kenta and dressed in his full royal regalia, Otumfuo and his entourage attended the ceremony that did not only celebrate him and the Asante Kingdom but Ghana as a whole.
Congratulations to Otumfuo.
