TTU: Stamford Bridge Hostel Under Fire From Ghana Tourism Authority

Stamford Bridge Hostel which is one of the most popular hostels in New Site, Takoradi has been allegdly closed down by the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The GTA ordered for the closure of the private hostel stating it failed to meet the requirements provided under Legislative Instrument L.I 1205 (accommodation and catering enterprises) which contains the general standards governing the operation of accommodation establishments

The hostel allegedly had also not been registered and residents expressed their disbelief at this as the registration fee wasn’t even up to what a single person pays per annum.

The GTA upon arriving at the hostel demanded for the hostel keys but were unable to get their hands on them as they were informed by the hostel’s residents that the hostel authorities were unavailable.

Students who have paid hostel fess ranging from 1000 to 2000 cedis per head and are currently occupying the hostel are in a state of uncertainty and do not know what lies ahead of them.

More hostels are likely to be looked into as the GTA has begun a sweep of all private hostels in the surrounding areas.
