JUST IN: Katanga & Unity Hall’s “Mixed Sex” Hall Injunction Application Has Been Dismissed By High Court

Continental

A Kumasi High Court has thrown out an injunction application seeking to prevent authorities of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from converting University hall and Unity hall to unisex halls.

The court explained that residence has already been granted to female students and seeking to prevent same would interrupt the activities of the school.

The injunction applications were filed differently by the now former two all-male halls but the court ordered that the applications be consolidated,

After lawyers had made their argument, the presiding judge ruled that the female students who have been allotted rooms in the two halls are already there so reversing same would be inimical to school activities, Myjoyonline reports.

The action comes after school authorities in January this year revealed plans to convert Unity Hall and University Hall, popularly known as Katanga into mixed halls.

The university authorities argue that they want to increase female enrolment in the halls.

The authorities also seek to curb violent clashes between the two former all-male halls which have been a result of a long-standing rivalry between them.

It’s final… Conti and Katanga are now mixed halls… the Conti and Katanga halls as you know them are no more.
