Former President JJ Rawlings Says He Wished Mahama And Others Would Priorities Rebuilding NDC Over Presidential Primaries

After former President, Jerry John Rawlings has repeatedly bashed the new leaders of the NDC and even openly campaigned for Nana Akufo-Addo in the last elections, it seems the NDC is attempting to mend fences with their founder.

Today, the former President John Dramani Mahama and a number of NDC leaders visited JJ Rawlings at his office in Accra.

The two former presidents centred their discussions on the re-organisation of the party, the upcoming regional and national executive elections as well as the presidential primaries for the party.

President Mahama stated the need to consult the founder on party issues and commended him for re-energizing the party’s Council of Elders and participating actively in its meetings. He indicated that a re-energised Council of Elders will instil a strong sense of order in the party structure.

…All that for getting in Rawlings’ good books… It is worth noting that President Mahama might become the NDC flagbearer in the 2020 general elections.

On his part, President Rawlings said he wished that more attention was given to the rebuilding of the party machinery over the prioritization of the party’s presidential primaries at this moment.

In effect, he is lowkey telling Mahama and others to double down on their campaign and focus on building a stronger NDC party.
