USAG (University Students Association of Ghana) as part of their congress, organizes a beauty pageant where beautiful and brainy young ladies from universities all over Ghana compete for the title of Face of USAG.
Last year was the maiden edition, which ended on a good note. This year’s edition was in progress and the beauty queens went to a Cape Coast beach yesterday for a photo shoot. Sources say that although these ladies had been warned not to swim, as it was almost time for the Cape Coast festival, five ladies ventured into the sea to wash up after the shoot.
All five of them began drowning. Out of the 5, four were saved. But unfortunately, one died at the hospital. The body of the 5th person is yet to be found.
Miss Lily Ampofowaa Asiedu of the University of Ghana, was one of the ladies who lost her life. She was confirmed dead at the hospital. The body of the other contestant, from the University of Education Winneba, Mampong Campus, who drowned cannot be found at the moment.
Lily, a level 400 Business Administration student of City Campus, would have contested for the crown in the finals scheduled for today had she not drowned yesterday.
May her soul rest in peace. We sympathise with her family and friends.
