Every month, mother nature pulls on her boots, puts on some warrior paint, grabs some weapons and kicks us in the guts just because well, we didn’t get pregnant. It’s only for a couple of days but it’s a terrible couple of days.

Yes it’s that bad.

Even worse.

Just in case there’s a clueless guy reading this, Web MD says cramps occur as a result of contractions in the uterus. If it contracts too strongly during your menstrual cycle, it can press against nearby blood vessels. This briefly cuts off the supply of oxygen to the uterus and basically, that causes your pain and cramping.

It’s a battlefield but you can deal with it. You may not win but you won’t lose either and these really make it all bearable at least.

 Hot Water Bottle

We don’t want to bore you with all the scientific details on how hot water bottles work to alleviate your menstrual pain but it works. You can easily get some in pharmacies (head over to the big ones please). All you have to do is fill it with hot water, get comfortable and place it on your abdomen. If you can’t get the hot water bottle, soak some dish towels with warm water and microwave until it’s really hot. Put in a ziplock bag and wrap it in a t-shirt or towel. Easy right? An even simpler method is placing a sachet of water in a pot of water. Let it boil then carefully take it out, wrap it in a towel and place it over your abdomen. It’s super comforting and will relieve you off the pain in a couple of minutes.

Not always tho cos sometimes, you find yourself crying over really little things and to be honest, that’s just a drop in your hormones so fuel up and grab that chocolate!

The good old painkillers. There’s a whole lot of painkillers that can help relieve the pain. You can go see your doctor to prescribe something for you or just get over-the-counter pain killers from any pharmacy. Most ladies swear by ibuprofen but there’s a whole bunch of other drugs that will work just fine for you too.

A couple of ladies swear by these natural remedies: brewed ginger and honey (you can replace honey with lemon), moringa tea with honey, garlic in warm water and peppermint tea. Just sip on these and you’ll be fine. You can even go the step further and try drinking these a couple of days before your expected period and you’ll feel better.

Now you’ve got some weapons to fight back! The next time you’re on your period, try all or a few of these and you’ll be fine. To the ladies who don’t feel any kind of pain during their period…
