The President, H.E Akufo-Addo has fired the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko following the Ameri Energy deal that went horribly wrong.
Boakye Agyarko had apparently deceived the President to approve a deal about the Ameri Energy plant without full details.
With much opposition to the deal which had been sent to parliament for approval, the President asked for another briefing on the deal. It was then that the President realized that the new deal was not in the interest of the country.
He then recalled the deal from parliament and ordered Boakye Agyarko to shut it down.
But the fallout from that has been epic. Ameri denied any knowledge of the new deal the Energy Minister was pushing through parliament.
In a statement released today and signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, the President relieved Boakye Agyarko from his duties as the Minister of Energy.
That is politely saying “You’re fired”.
In his absence, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu will act as the Minister of Energy.
