Gyidi, known as George Kofi Asare is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter, and actor. Born and raised in Accra, Gyidi identified as a music lover as far as primary school. He attended Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School and then, the University of Ghana where he graduated with a major in Information Studies.
Gyidi’s first take at music came from his affiliation with the Rap Group X4G. Their first single, “I’m for God”, which was released in 2012, took form instantly and shot the band into the spotlight, going on to win “Best International Group Performers of the Year” at the Gospel Music Awards in Italy 2014, where he earned a nomination also for the “Best International Male Artist of the Year”.
The band released their debut album “I’m for God” in 2013 and followed with “Unlabelled” in 2016 while hosting two concerts in between: the ‘Xmas Get2Geda’ in 2015 and ‘seleXion’ in 2016, where they launched their sophomore album. The group were also listed alongside Christian hip-hop heads, Kingzkid, Regardless and Preachers to perform at the maiden edition of ‘On-Point’, at the Accra International Conference Center.
Gyidi’s first single outside of the band was ‘Grateful‘ in the year 2016. The singer released various acoustics thereafter, eminent among which was “Better Half” and “Alright”. He followed his single, Grateful with “PhD”, an Afro-Dance tune which featured AVMB in June 2016. Gyidi also first appeared as an actor in the Youtube Weekly TV Show, Neighbors Film, which aired in 2016. He played the role of a college-hallmate, Edem.
In 2018, Gyidi released his first complete project as a solo-artist, an Extended Play, which he titled “Believe“. The 5-track EP came from various songs the artist had released over the leading months and was launched to the public as a project in April 2018.
