As we write this, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends of the late former Vice President of our dear country, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
He worked for the country in the shadows for many years and eventually became the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
At a point in time in our more than 61 years of independence, this man’s signature on certain important pieces of papers gave them the legal backing to be called Ghanaian currency.
That was how important this man was and with immerse intellect in economics, his position as the Vice President was justified.
While he was the Vice President, he did his very best to prop up the man in charge – John Dramani Mahama.
Maybe, he was so good at working in the background that he was publicly seen by some as an ineffective Vice President, who publicly did little to support his President.
This weekend, this gentleman will be laid to eternal rest till that day as talked about in the Bible when all of us will rise again.
His death sadly occurred while he was rather getting fit. At the Ghana Armed Forces gym while he was working out, he was said to have had a cardiac arrest. This eventually put him in the place he is now.
Former Vice President Amissah Arthur is being laid in state today, at the Accra International Conference Centre. Tomorrow, a state burial will be held for him, after which he will be interred at the military cemetery.
Rest in peace, Amissah-Arthur.
