Akwamuman Senior High School (SHS) was adjudged the overall winner in the category of ‘Best Historical Play’ at the 2018 South African National Arts Festival held in Grahams Town, South Africa.
The school’s Drama and Debating Club represented Ghana at the prestigious competition held in South Africa from June 2018, to July 2018.
“We are very happy to inform you that we were nominated for the Best Historical Play and we subsequently won in that category and we are happy to celebrate this achievement with all those who in one way or the other helped to make this dream a reality, most especially Zylofon Cash”, a statement from the School noted.
It continued: “Indeed we have made not only ourselves proud but also Ghana, our School and all our sponsors, including Zylofon Cash by winning the Best Historical Play in Grahamstown, South Africa”.
Akwamuman SHS was the only school from West Africa that participated in the international contest; an enviable slot the school’s Drama Club earned after it won an award at the Broadway Drama Festival held in November 2017.
However, with just a few days left to the trip last month, the school had not been able to raise the full amount of $68,000 to cater for the travelling cost of a team of twenty-five cast and crew.
Zylofon Cash, received an official request of sponsorship from the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Ministry of Education and the school’s head, Stephen Aglah and the company, in response to the request, gave out a cash amount of $10,000 to support the trip to South Africa.
The cash amount was received jointly by the Headmaster, Stephen Aglah and Chief of Akwamu Adumasa, Nana Ansah Kwao IV.
Thank you, Akwamuman SHS for making us proud.
