Tomorrow a new school will be crowned the winner of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz.
The most trolled NSMQ school, Adisadel is making their fourth consecutive entry into the final of the National Science and Maths Quiz.
Adisadel will be facing off with West African Senior High and St Peter’s High School for the title of the 2018 NSMQ Champions.
For all the three schools, their journey to the finals has been nothing short of tension-filled contents.
They’ve had to stare down 132 other schools with equally smart and intelligent who wanted nothing other than winning the competition.
Adisadel and WASS were seeded, while St Peter’s was unseeded. Meaning, the St Peter’s had to fight their way from the Preliminary stages to the 1/8th stage. Then the quarterfinals to the semi-finals and finally they are here
The preliminary stage of the competition didn’t get the same attention as unseeded battled for places in the 1/18th stage.
St. Peters had the highest preliminary qualifying points of 49.
However, the 1/8th stage had its fair share of drama.
Tamale SHS kicking out Achimota School in a tiebreaker.
Then we have our boys from Sandema SHS also kicking out St John’s Grammar from the competition.
These boys have financial challenges to the extent that they can’t afford to buy university forms.
Then we had the sad story of Akwamuman SHS missing out on a riddle to give Holy Child a smooth trip to the Quarter Finals.
But all the action was at the quarterfinals…
It was at this stage that most of the seeded schools started meeting each other in the same contest.
Keta SHS had their own fairy tale qualification to the Semi-Finals. Beating Archbishop Porter Girls’ was a good high point for their 2018 NSMQ campaign.
St Peter’s had a tougher contest but not even Wey Gey Hey and the Toms were able to quench their fire.
Our June High School of the Month, Mawuli School made sure Opoku Ware and New Juaben went parking after they met at the Semi-Final qualifying contest.
Moreover, the Semi-Finals fixtures assured us of a spectacular showdown and all the contests delivered big time.
Adisadel was chasing another final and they got it. Their regional counterparts were not ready for the sheer vim and vigour they brought.
While Ghana National was lost in the 20s, Mfantsipim tried mounting a challenge but Adisadel was 4 points clear of Mfantsipim’s 44 points at the end of the Semi-Final contest.
One may argue that Adisadel had it easy but both Keta and Mawuli gave out everything they could to book their place in the finale.
The biggest upset was when Prempeh was evicted by the underrated West Africa Senior High School.
As defending champions, Prempeh powered through the competition leaving a trail of heavy margins victories.
When Prempeh met Accra Academy and Islamic SHS in the Quarter Final, the margin of victory was really huge. Leading with their 67 points, second place Accra Academy had 26 points while Islamic SHS had 17 points.
The story was the same in the one-eighth contest against St Francis Xavier SHS and Saviour SHS. At the end of the contest, Prempeh had 62 points, while St Francis Xavier and Saviour SHS had 29 and 18 points, respectively.
It looked like WASS will also be a walk in the park for Prempeh.
Little did we know that WASS had their own secrets too.
In WASS vs Prempeh Vs Krobo Girls’, the results were 52, 45 and 29, respectively.
Haven kicked out the defending champion, WASS is an underdog favourite to win the competition.
Meanwhile, St Peters SHS is looking for a third NSMQ glory.
And Adisadel wants to finally put all the trolls to shame. We know the headmaster will come in his Zebra stripes suit…lol
On the side though… The quiz mistress, Dr Elsie Kauffman is using a paper bag after her bag was stolen on the stage in last year’s finale.
And Twitter had no chill for GCB after they gave NSMQ contest winners pens as a reward.
This year’s NSMQ has been eventful and we can’t wait for the finale.
It is Adisadel vs St Peters vs West African SHS
