Meet The Tamale SHS Students Who Caused #NSMQ2018 Upset By Eliminating Achimota School

This might be the biggest upset at the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Even the poll that was run by the NSMQ confirmed it.

Achimota School was the clear favourite to win the NSMQ 2018 Contest against Tamale SHS and Apam SHS.

74 per cent of 1,376 votes chose Achimota to win this contest.

But little did they know that the team from Tamale SHS came more prepared.

Achimota took the lead in the first round…

Then it seemed Achimota was keeping Tamale at bay…

Then the story started to change…

Tamale SHS dug their heels into the sand…

However, in the end, Achimota caught up with them.

But when they had the tiebreaker question, it was the boys from Tamale SHS who got the points to advance to the Quater Finals of the NSMQ

The Maltiti Yunus Mohammed and Sanusi Lawal team did beat the odds. They were the unexpected winners of the contest.

But while most of us assumed that they would be defeated by Achimota, they were rather resolute and confident while coming into the contest to face off to arguably well resourced southern senior high schools.

“We had the feeling that we were going to win this contest,” Maltiti told us in an interview.

“Going into the tiebreak did move us that much because coming into this contest we were confident that we are winning,” he said.

Their fans were ever jubilant.. and deservedly so too.
