If you followed season 5 of MTN’s Hitmaker closely, then the name F9 will definitely not sound foreign to you.
The identity F9, however, doesn’t exist anymore because according to 24-year-old Felix Quaye-Larbi, he was once a boy but now he is a man and as a man, you realize you made certain decisions in the past that were not good for you and as such, need to change these decisions.
Realizing that the kind of songs he does did not match up to the name F9, the former student of Asamankese Senior High School (ASASCO) decided to rebrand and adopt the name King Maaga.
His reason for the new choice of name is that he believes he was born to rule, takeover and inform people about things they are not aware of and it only takes kings to do that.
Maaga stands for someone who chases success with all they have.
The combination of both gives him the urge to have a positive impact in all he does.
His sole purpose as a musician is to make sure people can relate to his music.
His motivation for doing music comes from his extreme passionate for the art and he wants to make sure he turns it into a business venture.
As a reggae/dancehall and Afrobeats artiste, he definitely won’t be the first in that genre but he is in no competition with anyone because he believes he was sent to preach the gospel to the people through his music.
He looks up to the likes of Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Samini, Sarkodie, Jupiter, Jefrikin, Wizkid, Davido and Morgan Heritage.
As to whether he regrets rebranding, King Maaga says he doesn’t live a life of regrets because he believes it’s part of the learning process.
