This is probably every social media manager’s nightmare.
When a genuine gesture and attempt to show love backfires big time.
Guy, here we have the official National Science and Maths Quiz Twitter handle, giving a deserving shoutout to GCB through its Twitter handle @GCBBankLimited for “awarding the winners of the last contest with these branded pens!”
UGBS: Thank you @GCBBankLimited for awarding the winners of the last contest with these branded pens! #NSMQ2018 #Prelims pic.twitter.com/iLs2pioHHz

The winners are students from Ada SHS
At the end of their preliminary contest with Akumfi Ameyaw SHS and Sekondi SHS, Ada SHS had 50 points while the others ad 22 and 32 points, respectively.
But Twitter users were not impressed that the GCB only gave the Ada SHS students branded pens.

These guys have studied so much and they get a pen? Come on. Let's be serious

But GCB’s undoing was when they tried to explain.
Not to worry. Watch out for the #MoneyZone. It gets more exciting. #YouBank4Life #NSMQ2018

So I guess this is the #PenZone

Lol… Eazy people.
It’s all cool here…
But now the GCB account has a proper explanation for the whole pen situation.
hahahahaah….no bro. We are giving the winners of the #Prelims souvenirs to urge them on to the next stages. Each stage comes with its unique package.
Just stay tuned and prepare to be blown away.😊 #YourBank4Life #NSMQ2018
