UCC To Engage Cadets As National Service Persons To Augment Security

Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has taken an approach to beef up security on campus by engaging members of the various cadet corps on campus as National Service Personnel.

This was announced by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor George KT Oduro in response to concerns raised by the SRC President in his address at the launch of the 55th SRC Week Celebrations yesterday.

The strategy, the Pro VC indicated, is a short-term measure to address the situation of armed robbery and burglary that have become a chronic concern in the University community.

The Pro VC says several measures have been taken following a careful consideration of recommendations regarding the issue of security. Engaging National Service Personnel is one of them.

“Regarding security, in conjunction with the SRC, so many initiatives have to be put in place. We have noted the recommendations that have come and I will like to tell you that, because we have limited security personnel, what management has done is to engage students who have been members of the cadet and who are willing to do national service on campus. Those students will be engaged and attached to the security section”, he said.

He emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and charged students to play their role by becoming more security conscious.
