The single most important tool for breaking the poverty cycle in Africa is education. This is why governments in Africa pay particular attention to education by implementing policies that will make education accessible and affordable to all citizens.
In the face of pragmatic steps by these governments to improve the quality, the accessibility and the affordability of education for its citizens, the statistics on education are still not looking pretty. For example, Ghana is one of the countries in sub – Saharan African that has been able to reduce its Out – Of – School Children (OoSC) population by more than one half between the years 2000 and 2013. However, nearly 500,000 children are estimated to be out of schools, according to UNESCO.
It is important to note, therefore, at this point that governments alone will require a very long time to achieve a respectable system and quality of education across Africa. This is why it is imperative for all individuals to join forces to support the course of achieving quality education which is accessible and affordable to all citizens, irrespective of their economic or financial status.
In this regard, HETAC International Foundation, a youth-led NGO that is into improving the quality of education in deprived communities in Africa, is undertaking a project dubbed HETAC IMPACT PROJECT. This project simply seeks to recruit university students across Ghana, train them and deploy them into underprivileged communities to teach, train, mentor and expose the pupils in these communities to some practical ICT lessons between June 1 and July 31, 2018.
In case you are wondering how you can help this project, just keep calm. You can support the project by volunteering if you are a university student and you are available during the period of the project. What’s more? You can join the 1 Cedi Campaign by donating at least 1 Ghana Cedi towards the project.
The numbers for receiving all donations are as follows: 0241106160 (MTN Merchant) and 0274719208 (Tigo Cash).
As responsible citizens, we are encouraged to support these great initiatives. For more details and enquiries, visit hetacfoundation.org.
