We have been telling you about this progressive education summit in Senegal that sought to champion how to provide $2bn annually to fund education in growing economies.

You first heard of it when a religious group in Senegal tried but failed to stop Rihanna from attending the summit.

Rihanna did attend the summit, but prior to that, she had been tweeting world leaders asking them to provide funding to support the global push to make education accessible to all.

At the summit, President Akufo-Addo called on his colleague African presidents to set aside 20% of their own budget to improve education in their own countries.

He urged them to stop looking to the west to improve education in Africa.

After all, “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs”, Dr Kwame Nkrumah said and we continue to say today.

While he delivered his speech, pop star Rihanna was in the audience.

She felt the emotion in the room and even shook hands with H.E Akufo-Addo.

We already know that Rihanna and Papa Oppong, a designer and one of Emergers 2017, do DM each other from time to time.

After, Rihanna’s handshake with H.E Akufo-Addo, Papa Oppong did hit her up in the DM.

“Rihhhh you shook hands with my president. Which means you shook hands with Ghana. Which means you shook hands with me. Ok a bit of a stretch but this made me soooo happyyy!!!,” he said.

Then badgalriri replied “Your President was so well spoken and inspiring! He shook the room! You should be proud!”
