Here Are The University of Ghana’s Entry Requirements For 2018/2019 Academic Year

We also told y’all about what you need to do to apply before the application window closes on 31st July 2018.

Before you pay that GHS 200 for the admission forms, you need to know whether you can make the cut or not.

Here’s all you need to know about the entry requirements of the various programmes of study at the University of Ghana.

General requirement:

  • You must have at least credits in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for science-related programmes) or Social Studies (for non-Science related programmes) and three electives subjects in Science for applicants applying to Science or Agriculture related disciplines or three elective subjects in General Arts/Business for applicants applying to non-Science related disciplines, with the total aggregate not exceeding 24.
  • Science applicants should have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Social Studies/Life Skills and non-science applicants should also have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Integrated Science/Core Science.

For those seeking to apply to the College of Health Sciences, this is what you have to know.

  • Applicants who are short-listed take-up programmes at the College of Health Sciences must pass an entrance examination and/or interview.
  • For the School of Medicine and Dentistry, applicants must have credit passes in Chemistry and any two from Physics, Biology and Elective Mathematics.
  • For the School of Pharmacy, applicants must have credit passes in three electives comprising Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Elective Mathematics.
  • For the School of Biological and Allied Health Sciences, applicants must credit passes in three electives comprising Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Elective Mathematics.
  • The school of Nursing and Midwifery requires applicants to have credit passes in three electives from any of the following combinations: (Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Elective Mathematics), (General Agriculture, Physics and Chemistry), (Three General Arts Electives), (Two General Arts Electives plus Food and Nutrition), (Any three of the following electives: Management in Living, Food and Nutrition, Chemistry, General Knowledge in Art and French).

Applicants for the College of Basic and Applied Sciences should take note of this:

  • For the School of Engineering Sciences, applicants must have credit passes in three electives comprising Elective Mathematics and any two of Chemistry, Physics and Technical Drawing.
  • For the School of Agriculture, applicants who want to study a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Extension must have credit passes in three electives comprising Chemistry and two electives from Physics, Elective Mathematics, General Agriculture or Biology, Geography or Economics.
  • And applicants who want to study a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences should note that there are two options available and they are Food and Clothing for Science students and Family and Child Studies for Home Economics and General Arts students.
  • For Food and Clothing, applicants must have credit passes in any three of the following electives: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics and General Agriculture and for Family and Child Studies, applicants must have credit passes in any three of the following electives: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Elective Mathematics and General Agriculture.
  • For the School of Veterinary Medicine, applicants must have credit passes in three electives from Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Elective Mathematics.
  • For the School of Biological Sciences, applicants must have credit passes in three elective subjects comprising Physics, Chemistry and Biology/General Agriculture.
  • For Bachelor of Science in Psychology, applicants must have credit passes in Biology and any two electives from Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

For the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, these are the requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology
    Credit passes in any Three (3) Electives subjects
  • Bachelor of Science in Earth Science
    Credit passes in Three (3) electives comprising Physics, Chemistry and either Biology, Elective Mathematics or Geography
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
    Credit passes in Three (3) Electives subjects comprising Chemistry, Physics and Elective Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science
    Credit passes in Three (3) Electives subjects including Elective Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science in Statistics
    Credit passes in Three (3) Electives subjects comprising Elective Mathematics and any other Two (2) elective subjects
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
    Applicants must have Credit passes in Three (3) Electives subjects comprising Elective Mathematics and any other Two (2) elective subjects
  • Bachelor of Science in Physics
    Credit passes in Three (3) Electives subjects comprising Physics, Elective Mathematics and Chemistry.

College of Humanities applicants must take note of the following:

School of Social Sciences/School of Arts/School of Languages

For Bachelor of Arts, applicants must have credit passes in any three elective subjects

Applicants must have the following WASSCE subjects to qualify to read the under listed courses:

  • Economics, Mathematics or Statistics –  Elective Mathematics
  • Computer Science                               –  Elective Mathematics
  • French                                                 –  French
  • English                                                 – English Literature
  • Geography                                           – Geography
  • For a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, applicants must have credit passes in any three elective subjects.
  • For a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), applicants must have credit passes in any three elective subjects.
  • For a Bachelor of Fine Arts, applicants must have credit passes in any three elective subjetcs. This programme is open to applicants interested in the Performing Arts with aggregate 24 or better and they will be expected to attend an audition or interview.

 

Applicants for the College of Education must note the following:

  • School of Education and Leadership:

1. BA Education (English)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects including at least at least grade B3 in English Literature.

 

2. BA Education (Non-Teaching)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects.

 

3. B.Sc. Education (Mathematics)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects including at least at least grade B2 in Elective Mathematics.

 

4. B.Sc. Education (Biology)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects including at least at least grade B3 in Biology.

 

5. B.Sc. Education (Chemistry)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects including at least at least grade B3 in Chemistry.

 

6. B.Sc. Education (Physics)

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Elective subjects including at least at least grade B3 in Physics.
  • School of Continuing and Distance Education:

1. Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Electives subjects with the total aggregate not exceeding 24

2. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

  • Credit passes in any three elective subjects with the total aggregate not exceeding 30

3. Bachelor of Science in Nursing

  • Applicants must be professional nurses who already have a Diploma in Nursing from a recognized Nursing Training College, with a Final Grade Point Average (FGPA) of 2.5 or better.

4. Bachelor of Arts

  • Credit passes in any Three (3) Electives subjects with the total aggregate not exceeding 30.
