10 Basic Wardrobe Essentials For College Students

Life as a college student is already stressful as it is, so imagine having to pack for your campus life as a fashionista. You are liable to carry your whole wardrobe with you. But to be honest you do not need as many clothes as you think. Overpacking in itself is frustrating to let alone trying to create space for you and your roommate. But no worries, here are 10 basic wardrobe essentials you will definitely need during your college life.

A Good Pair Of Jeans.

You need to pack at least 3 pairs of Jeans, that fit you well, not the ones that you have to think twice about before putting it on leave those at home. Our go-to is dark-washed skinny jeans, but we recommend that you bring any cut and colour that you feel most comfortable in. You should bring at least one pair of high-waist jeans to pair with a crop top or blouse for an easy outfit to go out on the weekend in.

Honestly, leggings are the best thing created by mankind. Leggings are extremely versatile and comfortable and can be worn with almost anything to create an awesome outfit (as long as you wear something long enough over them and always check the camel toe situation…). You can wear basic leggings, but also prints, leather and even denim.

With limited storage and closet space in your dorm room, you are going to want to make the most of your wardrobe. Basic tops in neutral colours like white, black and grey give you so many options to work with. Bring different cuts — tank top, V-neck, long sleeved, and t-shirts in each of these colours to stretch your closet even further.

It does not matter what your major is — you need to be able to look like a professional at any time, especially when you start interviewing for internships and jobs. Even as a freshman, you may be required to dress up for presentations, and to attend a conference or networking event. Keep a crisp white button up or blouse and some nice pants or pencil skirt at the back of your college wardrobe.

Your schedule can load up fast in college. One day you may just have class from 12 to 1 and on another day your whole day will consist of classes, meetings, and homework. Then randomly someone will invite you to come out right when you’re done with your night class and most of the time you won’t have time to change. It is a good idea to keep a day-to-night piece in your college wardrobe for these occasions – just switch from flats to heels and add a cute necklace and you’re done!.

Mini Skirt

Bring your favourite black skirt with you to school as one of your go-to clothing items. A high waist and a crop top is a perfect outfit to go out,  a maxi skirt and a tee work great to go to class. While dresses are great to look put together with little to zero effort, skirts allow you to have so many more options for different clothing combinations.

If you do not own anything else in this lifetime please do not let the LBD (Little Black Dress) be one of them. You can always dress it up or down. You can never go wrong with an LBD.

A small Cross-Body bag can hold items such as money, student id and phone. Just the small things you need to keep safe without having to fumble or hold it yourself. Bring this bag with you when you’re just running to the eatery or when you’re going out to a party on the weekend. We like to throw this bag in my backpack when we go to class so I have everything I need in one easily accessible place and not lying at the bottom of my bag.

Some people are a little scared off by the idea of showing off their stomachs, but you can easily wear a crop top more conservatively. Pair your favorite crop top with some high-waist jeans or shorts for a more casual look or dress it up for a night out by wearing it with a skirt. If you have a cropped sweater you can layer than on over a maxi dress for a comfortable, relaxed look.

Imagine having your classes all over the compound and walking to them in heels or any uncomfortable shoes!! You can count us out, bring a comfortable pair of sneakers. It is versatile, you can pair it with a dress, your favourite pair of jeans.
