Seemed like just yesterday when the freshers were walking around clueless all over campus. Now look at them, writing their end of semester exams, all grown up. Here’s a summary of all of their experiences throughout the semester.
The release of Admission list: The admission list of the freshers was released on Sunday 13 August 2017 and this brought joy to the admitted students.
Registration for a Hall: The release of the admission list was followed by the struggle for a hall of residence where the portal for selection of a hall was open to all level 100s. This activity was a “survival of the fastest” sort of thing, where only individuals with very fast internet connection were able to get the hall of their choice.
Reporting to school: They began reporting to school from Monday, 4 September 2017 to Saturday, 9 September 2017. Upon arrival, they had to register with their halls of residence and in subsequent days, registered with their respective departments.
Orientation: The next activity for them after reporting, was the orientation. This started from Wednesday, 30 August 2017 to Saturday, 2 September 2017. The orientation gave them a fair idea of what they needed to know about the University of Ghana.
Akwaaba night: The SRC organized an Akwaaba night for the level 100’s to welcome them into the Premier University. The Akwaaba night was characterized by pieces of advice from notable people like the Head of Department of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufman who also doubles as the quiz mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz, controversial journalist Afia Pokuaa popularly known as Vim Lady and the member of parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Ebenezer Agyarko. There was also a play staged which was titled “I Will Chop You”. The Akwaaba party was climaxed with an after party at the Kikibees lounge in East Legon which recorded a very low turnout.
Matriculation: A matriculation ceremony was held on Saturday, 23 September 2017. This ceremony made the level 100’s, official and recognized students of the University of Ghana. This matriculation ceremony, unlike past ones, was devoid of any fight between the Okpo-mates and the vandals.
Fresh A Fair: The Fresh ‘A’ Fair concert, which was held on 29th and 30th September was the first University campus jam for the level 100s. Ebony, KiDi, Kuami Eugene and Yaa Pono rocked the stage and thrilled the students with great performances. Ebony, as usual, stole the show with a crazy lap dance. Kojo Manuel and DJ Vyrusky did what they do best to the excitement of the students.
UGRCs wahala: Most of the freshers were not able to register for their UGRC courses online and had to resort to manual registration. Others were not able to register at all, because all the groups were full.
Exams: For the first time in years, the level 100’s are writing their exams before going home on vacation. They began their exams on Monday, 4 December 2017 and will be ending on Friday, 22 December 2017.
