Kuulpeeps, all of us are guilty of creating jokes about how long President Robert Mugabe has stayed on as President of Zimbabwe.
This morning, we woke up to the news that the military has seized power.
But they are not calling it a coup d’état.
According to the country’s military, Mugabe is still their president, however, he is now a president who could be best described as a ‘toothless bulldog’.
Though he is remaining their president, he is virtually under house arrest and the military are the ones calling the shots.
The military takeover comes after the country’s vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa was fired by Robert Mugabe.
News just in indicates that Grace Mugabe has fled Zimbabwe for neighbouring Namibia, the Independent reports.
It is unclear how Mrs. Mugabe was able to make her escape.
Zimbabwean army generals have detained senior officials, including the Finance Minister, as part of a round-up of “criminals”.
