Married Men To Become Priests In Catholic Church

Pope Francis

Pope Francis has raised prospects of married men becoming priests.

Hold on Kuulpeep, don’t get all excited over that yet.

First of all, the issue is up for debate, secondly, it isn’t going to happen in Ghana as the prospect affects men in the Amazon region of Brazil.

This came after Cardinal Hummes (the president of  the Episcopal Commission for the Amazon) reportedly asked Francis to consider ordaining so-called viri probati, married men of great faith, capable of ministering spiritually to the many remote communities in the Amazon where there is a shortage of priests, and evangelical Christians and pagan sects are displacing Catholicism.

Even though this news will anger a number of people, it isn’t new to the church. It follows the timeless tradition of the Church: a married man may be ordained, but an ordained single man can not get married.

Pope Francis said earlier this year that the Church should consider allowing married men to become priests in specific circumstances, effectively reversing the centuries-old practice that Roman Catholic priests must be celibate.

What are your views on this Kuulpeeps, should catholic priests be allowed to get married or should they remain celebate?
