The new smart cards come with a security embedded chip to curb fake licenses in the system. Unless you can fake your own chip.

The chip will contain the driver’s information which will be linked to the new national identification system in a secured manner.

Now, this is why you need to get your digital address, because, the new chip driver’s license will be linked to the national identification data that will also require your digital address.

All government data will be linked now.

At a media briefing yesterday, the Director of Driver Training, Testing and Licensing, Cheyuo Wienaa Musah, said the new system will reduce the length of time it takes to issue licenses and other driving and vehicle-related documents to applicants.

According to DVLA, the new licenses will be valid for 6 years. DVLA will start issuing the new licenses on November 7, 2017. Meanwhile, the old licenses will still be valid until they expire.
