When the argument of what is the difference between skin toning and lightening (bleaching) comes up, most of us seem lost.
Well, here we are, lets break it down with words and pictures so we can all get a better understanding of the two once and for all.
Skin Toning: In cosmetics, skin toners or simply, toners refer to lotions or wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores, blackheads etc and is usually used on the face.
So like if you have uneven skin tone like most people do, then you should probably use products that cater to even out your skin tone; shea butter often does a good job. It does not necessarily change the colour of your face, it often only clears your face and makes it smoother.
Skin whitening, skin lightening, and skin bleaching refer to the practice of using harsh chemical substances in an attempt to lighten your skin complexion by lessening the concentration of melanin in a person’s body. Melanin is the dark brown to black pigment occurring in the hair, skin, and iris of the eye in people – it is the magic behind the black skin.
… But it still gets us confused when we see a person who used to be very black, suddenly becoming light brown, or whatever skin tone they call it, do you say they toned their skin or bleached?. Issa bleach!!
Well hopefully now you can tell the difference.
