This Is What Government Is Doing Now To Implement Free SHS

If the Free SHS programme succeeds, the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government will breathe a great sigh of relief.

The Finance Ministry has released funds that was earmarked to achieve this social intervention programme.

In the budget, about GHS 486 million was allocated for the implementation of the Free SHS programme.

Earlier today, Government disbursed more than half of the GHS 486 million to the various public Senior High Schools.

About GHS 280 million is expected to hit the accounts of the Government owned SHS before they reopen next week, Citi FM reports.

The release of the funds has addressed earlier concerns by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) that, although the government had promised it was going to release funds to them before re-opening, they were yet to receive the funds.

About 400,000 first year students in 647 senior high schools are expected to benefit from the Free SHS this academic year.
