This Is How UG Is Encouraging Entrepreneurship Among Students

The Dare2Start Entrepreneurship Challenge is held by the Careers and Counseling Centre of the University of Ghana in partnership with Ignition Africa Foundation to give students with brilliant entrepreneurial ideas a chance to pitch their ideas to a panel.

The 2nd Edition of the Dare2start Entrepreneurship Challenge came to an end on 21st September, 2017 and lasted for 4 exciting weeks.

Selected teams were trained and groomed on how to develop their business better among others. The selected winners were given start up capital to put their ideas into form.

A total of 62 Teams applied to be part of this exciting journey this year.

There were two different sets of training; teams were practically taught how to be innovative and were educated on the key building blocks of a business.

There were Black Box Nights; an open forum where key resource people were invited to touch on relevant topics regarding business and entrepreneurship to the benefit of the whole university community.

Then there was an Entrepreneurship Clinic where competing teams met with resource people to help them fine tune their ideas. Teams were also taught on how to pitch their ideas through a demo pitching exercise.

As we’ve been told countless times, All work and no play…

So they allowed the participating teams to network and have fun and generally, mingle with entrepreneurs. The Cocktail Night was a huge success with the teams being treated to a night of music, fun, interviews and one-on-one sessions and with attendees.
The night was filled to capacity with guests such as the CEO of AFB, CEO of 3rd Eye Security, CEO of MeQasa, Director of the careers and counseling Center and a host of other key individuals.

Finally, on the 21st of September came the Entrepreneurship Fair and the Grand Finale.

The entrepreneurship fair set the tone for the day. Dr. Samuel Buame (Snr. Lecturer, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, UGBS), officially opened the fair.

The Grand Finale followed later in the afternoon.
The 10 finalists were given the opportunity to pitch, the remaining 13 Teams were not left out.
They were also given the opportunity to pitch to investors as well.

The Past winners were on hand to spice up the event and the Judges didn’t disappoint, they brought their A Game.
