Urinary Tract Infections mostly known as UTIs are infections that affect any part of the urinary system (kidney, bladder or urethra). Studies show that the rate of infection is more common in women.
Why? Nothing you can control.
It’s just because bacteria is easily transferred to the bladder in women mostly because a woman’s urethra is shorter and closer to the anus than men.
Know what some of the most basic causes are?
Through sex, having poor personal hygiene, holding urine in all the time, using tampons
So here are some really common symptoms of Urinary tract infections;
- Burning sensation when urinating which sometimes comes with cloudy, bloody or strong smelling urine.
- Irritation around the genitals (itching especially in women)
- Pain in the lower abdomen or back
- Fever when the infection gets to the kidneys (this is a worst case scenario)
Now, UTIs can result in complications such as permanent kidney damage premature infants or low birth weight if not properly treated but! Good news! The uncomplicated ones can be easily treated within 2-3 days.
But!! Here’s how to prevent it easily so you don’t have to go to the hospital at all!!
Wear loose fitting clothes
all those tight jeans to show off your wonderful form will just trap moisture and make it easier for bacteria to grow
Say yes to cotton underwear to keep the genitals dry.
Byebye sexy silk underwear 24/7
Ensure that you clean the genital from front to back to prevent spreading bacteria from the anal orifice to the urinal tract.
Drink a lot of water and empty the bladder regularly
That means pee whenever you must. Don’t hold it in.
Clean your private part before sex and urinate after sex to remove any bacteria that might have found its way into your urinal tract.
No peeing after sex won’t prevent pregnancy but it will save you from a UTI
Stay away from feminine hygiene sprays and scented douches
Your vagina isn’t supposed to be smelling like flowers anyway
If you ever feel like you may have a UTI, please just go to the hospital. Don’t listen to your friend just to buy some painkillers or cream.
