
As a freshman, you absolutely have no clue as to what the typical Ashesi lifestyle entails.
Dear freshman, here is a list of tips from continuing students.
2019 TIPS
- You should go to big Ben (the ASC canteen)
- You should play football more (the APL is bae)
- You shouldn’t go and learn orientation week
- You should find mentors to guide them (eg Me)
- You should enjoy orientation week and participate in all activities
- You should take Pre Cal seriously if Kwame will be teaching you
- You shouldn’t do last minute anything.
- You should make sure they finish all their assignments by Saturday.
- You should never eat from Akornor.
- You should only wait for holidays to watch series and movies
- All ladies should visit Eddie’s Counseling Consult
- You should not steal.
- The boys must know age is just a number, they can go for girls in higher levels
- The girls MUST know their fathers brought them here to learn and learn only!
- Make a lot of friends during orientation week.
- Avoid believing in Akornor.
- Always have breakfast at big Ben
- Avoid making enemies in the FDE period
- There should have an equivalent ratio between the way they learn and party.
- You should go for parties organised by their year group and maybe any other parties. It’s not only GPA that matters
- All 2021s should pick a 2019 guide preferably the opposite sex, it will help build their educational and spiritual life. It would help them a lot. They should be adventurous boundaries create boredom.
- You should not let distance limit them.
- You should attend Awkwaaba Night
- You should participate as well.
- You should take God or Allah serious. You need him in some difficult times in Ashesi.
- You shouldn’t be lazy in groups (they’ll ealuate you poorly)
- Please tell them. They shouldn’t feel themselves too much. They should be humble or assignment will humble them.
- You shouldn’t be also wicked in groups (karma is a b****)
- Always strife to be a group leader, so peer evaluation is done by you.
- One more thing. You should let your group leaders be sending you too much.
- You should turn up for their year group’s events because most often no one else will. Unless there’s free food
- You should treat pop quizzes seriously…..
- You should not read that orientation book
- Please tell them no hoeism
- All relationships end after the first week
- All external. They should never join any class with Lecturer name Steve Buchele, and Nepetti.
- You should never join any class with Lecturer name Kajsa.
2017 TIPS
- Be yourself
- Make sure you attend all school parties. Don’t be boring!
- Start your coursework early (time and tide waits for no man).
- If you are tired of the school don’t be scared to go home and refresh your mind. Staying in school on weekends doesn’t guarantee a Summa Cum Laude.
- Understand that getting paired with your friends for group work isn’t necessarily the best thing
- They should get someone who can release their stress for them. Eg. Movies and sleepovers with ….., you know wassup.
- If you feel you deserve more marks after an assignment speak up early..don’t wait till the end of the semester
- Tell that person you like them, believe me it’ll hurt when you see them with someone else all over campus
- DoNOT eat Akonnor’s waakye
- You’ll always have a Kingsley in your class, you’ll get used to him/her, it may take time but you’ll learn to shut them out
- For the girls: if you like him, go for him.
- Know your lecturers and let them know you, they’ll prove to be wonderful references when you need them
- Don’t believe friends who tell you they’ve not started their assignment whilst truly dey are editing their first draft
- When you feel stress… Just shake it off. After sometime, you’ll realize it’s not that deep
- Run for a student government position… it’s not that deep
- Google always got your back if only u use it well
- Reference as you do your coursework, don’t wait till the end
- Love yourself, belly rolls and all
- There will always be skinny haters Roll all over them on your way to get that cinnamon bun
- Protectyour library books or else you will pay 50 cedis or more to Ninah Chachu
- If you get campus and you don’t want it anymore decline it, or else you will be billed the following sem whether you slept there or not. don’t be like Wilma
- Don’t think Summa is unachievable. Learn from c2017.
- For international student…. Embrace the culture, love Ghana and the people…. You never know what the future holds
- Try out international opportunities as well
- Don’t wait till the last minute to print assignments or upload them. The internet would magically stop working when you need it most.
2018 TIPS
- Always use a flashlight when walking through the bush
- They should explore. Very important. People, places, everything.
- They should also start off the first year very well in terms of GPA. So that they won’t be looking at the final years getting honours, when they are about to enter their third year and wondering if they will ever get there.
- Goto sleep. Being up after 2 is just hurting yourself
- Make and keep friends
- Identify your learning times Night walker or day ranger
- Experience the hill
- Don’t hook yourself in a relationship in the first two weeks …. Relax it small and see the glory of God reveals itself to you after 1st semester
- Stay single and mingle
- Get crazy friends, they have crazy ideas
- Your mates are not for you wait for the next batch of freshmen
- Have enough sleep
- It is not always about the books ….pursue a passionate interest outside classes
- Actually don’t sleep ..beautiful things happen after 12
- Always seek pasco. You will find something
- Don’t let the joy of orientation week fool you: there is work to do so please enjoy your first week
- Honour code works, but it is no excuse to be careless please keep an eye on your stuff
- Always back up your school work. Use a cloud storage
- Befriend your FIS and lecturers
- Your mates are not your competitors. They are your partners for success
- Your time in college are some of the best years of your life, experiment, try different things, take academics and career related risk. So that by the time you graduate you know what you want out of life. It gets difficult to take risks when you have to pay attention to bills and take care of your kids in the future
