One week after the inhumane murder of Capt. Mahama, the government has made a number of promises to the widow and the family of the late military officer.
Yesterday, President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo promised that a monument will be erected to honor Capt Mahama.
Adam Mahama’s family had earlier requested that a monument be erected to honor the army officer when the leadership of Parliament paid a courtesy call.
The family expressed the hope that this monument would serve as a reminder of the tragedy and a deterrent to the canker of mob justice in Ghana.
Moreover, the President, in his capacity as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, also promoted Adam Mahama from Captain to Major posthumously and also directed that Major should be given a state burial.
That’s not all, another consolatory package for the family is a GHS 500,000 Education Trust Fund for his children’s education. The President is said to have personally paid GHS 50,000 to the fund.
Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper West Denkyira District of the Central Region, when he was allegedly mistaken for a robber.
So far, some forty-one persons have been remanded for their suspected roles in the gruesome act.
The family has announced that his burial will take place on Friday, June 9, 2017.
