Martin Thompson Ntem Wins GIJ SRC Election Amid Chaotic Scenes On Campus

Martin Thompson Ntem was declared the President elect of the Ghana Institute of Journalism Students’ Representative Council (GIJ-SRC) despite protest by some students who alleged that the presidential votes had been rigged.

There were chaotic scenes on the GIJ campus last night while GIJ-SRC Electoral Commission executives were midway through counting the presidential ballot papers.

Some students who had formed an angry crowd was heard shouting ‘we will vote again’ ‘we will vote again’ following suspicion that the counting process was not transparent and attempts were being made to steal their votes for another candidate.

About eight police men were called in to restore calm after the GIJ SRC EC was forced to halt the counting process because of the commotion on campus.

However, Martin Thompson Ntem was declared the winner thereby beating five other aspirants to clinch the office of the GIJ SRC President.

Martin Ntem will be joined in office by Justina Odoi as Women’s Commissioner, Tony Bonsu as Organizing Secretary, Samson King Afodofe as the External Affairs officer, Osei Kwame Wise as the Financial Secretary and Nathaniel Alhpa as the General Secretary.
