First-of, the news about a potential GHC100 note has been confirmed false.
Samples of new Ghana cedi notes in denominations of Gh¢30, Gh¢100 and Gh¢200 flooded social media and raised a lot of eyebrows.
This happened because a story headlined ‘BoG to issue new GHC5, GHS30, GHS100, and GHS 200 notes on March 4”circulated on social media. The story however was associated with Citi business news reporter Lawrence Segbefia.
According to CitiFM, the article was rather published on January 19, 2017, but with the headline; ‘BoG to issue GHS5 notes on March 4’, stating that they did not air nor publish the said story in circulation.
Even though they claim they didn’t, the harm has already been done.
The Bank Of Ghana just issued a press statement addressing the issue.
So there you have it… we guess change didn’t really come like that.
