A Court In Uganda Has Issued An Arrest Warrant For Wizkid And This Is Why

Wizkid is under siege by the Ugandan authorities after he allegedly took money from local organisers for a show he never came for.

Face Tv, who were the organisers of what was expected to be the biggest concert in Uganda at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala have sued the Nigerian singer saying they had paid the artist’s manager, Sunday Are, a total of $68,000(equivalent to 6.9million Kshs) but they breached the contract.

According allafrica.com, the field affidavits show that between August 29th and November 29th 2016, Face TV paid to Sunday Are, a total performance fee of Sh6 million ($60,000), a brokerage fee of Sh500,000 ($5,000) and Sh300,000 ($3,000) as per diem for the days they were to spend in Uganda. After their approval, the organisers proceeded to incur substantial expenses in bookings and re-bookings of flights, hotel, venue, advertisements and promotions for the concert which was supposed to have taken place on December 3rd, 2016.

Wizkid now faces three counts of charges; obtaining money by false pretense, cheating and conspiracy to defraud.
The arrest warrant directs any police officer from the Uganda Police or Interpol to arrest Wizkid and produce him to court before January 16th, 2017.
