Incredibly sad news coming in from Manhyia today seems indicate that the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, and mother of Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, has died, aged 109.
It is reported by Graphic Online that she died peacefully in her sleep
Manhyia has dispatched its emissaries around Ghana, and to the various Chiefs around the Asante Kingdom to formally inform them of the Queen Mother’s passing. It is expected that planning for her funeral begins this Thursday
Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II was enstooled in 1977 following the death of her predecessor Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko II who reigned from 1945 to 1977. The late Queen Mother has since been an omnipresent force in the Asante Kingdom, overseeing the reign of the late Otumfuor Opoku Ware II (1970-1999), and her son, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, since 1999
