Judith Atatsi, a 20-year-old unemployed woman, was arrested by the East Legon District Police for allegedly beating up her three-year old step-daughter to death at Mempeasem, near East Legon, in Accra.

The victim, after sustaining injuries, was left in the room of her father, who according to reports, was outside Accra when the incident occured. She died moments later.

She was found lying face up with blood stains all over her body on the bed of her father.

The body of the child has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

East Legon District Crime Officer, DSP Belinda Banini, said the suspect was arrested after the mother of the child, Felicia Abotse, made a complaint that her former husband had called her from the Upper East Region to inform her of her daughter’s death and so she should go to his house at Mempeasem to convey the body and as such, needed police assistance.

The suspect, Judith Atatsi, said she went out to withdraw some money and upon her return, discovered that the girl was playing with the electrical gadgets and used a stick to beat her up.

Police investigations however showed that Adatsi used the heels of her shoe which was found with blood stains on it, to assault the kid.
