On the 28th of June 2016, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, claimed that Mrs Charlotte Osei assumed the position Electoral Commission Chairperson by giving sexual favors. People were angered by his comments and want him to apologize for disrespecting not only Mrs Charlotte Osei, but also all women in the country. Honourable Hajia Alima Issah, secretary for the National Zongo Magajia Association, at a press conference in Accra said that there are a lot of females in the nation who are also facing similar abuse. She stated that, “She and her fellow women want to make the whole universe aware that women are not sex objects and therefore no one has the right to insult women for no reason”. She added that Mrs Charlotte Osei was appointed to office because of nothing other than her qualifications.
So today, some women will take to the streets of Accra in order to raise the attention of leaders in positions of power to have them call Mr. Kennedy Agyapong to order for disrespecting women.
