An old girl of Wesley Girls’ High School, Dr. Victoria Kwakwa has been appointed as the new Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific of the World Bank.  Dr. Kwakwa will be responsible for leading the Bank’s advisory and lending operations in the region and overseeing strategic engagement with the region’s 23 member countries.

She joined the Bank as a Young Professional in 1989 and worked on its 2000-2001 World Development Report on poverty. She is an old girl of Gey Hey and holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Ghana, Legon and also earned a master’s and doctorate from Queen’s University in Canada.

According to World Bank Group President, Jim Yong Kim, Dr. Kwakwa stands out as someone who knows the region well and has been part of their effort to bring about change at a time when East Asia Pacific has been rapidly developing and playing a pivotal global role.

She has accepted the role; saying she is honored to lead the group’s engagement in a region that is key to the future relevance of the World Bank Group.
