Knust Students To Pay Utility Bills?

Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology may be billed to pay for utility next semester, a Kuulpeeps source at the University’s administration has revealed.

Last year, a move by government to bill students with utility bills was greeted with stiff opposition from student unions which later saw the government scrapping the idea.

However, according to the source in KNUST, the move seems to have reared its head in the school, as officials and stakeholders are scheduled to meet on Monday to see the way forward.

The meeting is expected to be between the Vice Chancelor of the University, the SRC president and the boss of the Electricity Company of Ghana in Kumasi and other stakeholders in the University community.

Kuulpeeps’ source mentioned that they will discuss the issue on whether or not to bill students considering the debt the institution owes ECG over the years.

However, the SRC has vowed to resist any attempt by officials to bill students with utility bills.

Meanwhile, grapevine information has it that if the outcome of the meeting is not fruitful, medical students at the Okomfo Anokye Hospital who are billed with utility bills will hit the streets to register their displeasure.
