President Mugabe’s visit to Ghana has been called off due to an unknown reason. The organizers of the event, Millennium Excellence Foundation, could not explain why Mugabe’s trip has been called off, according to a report by Accra-based Citi FM.
Zimbabwe embassy officials were also tight-lipped as to why the African leader would no longer show up.
Mugabe’s visit to Ghana had been hugely anticipated, with billboards having been erected to welcome him.
The Zimbabwean leader is no stranger to Ghana. Between 1955 and 1958, he stayed in Ghana where he educated at the Achimota Secondary School. He even married a Ghanaian woman , Ama Sally, who later died.
The awards ceremony is set to go on despite the setback.
