Ghana saw a lot of scandals this year; from corruption to sex tapes, with controversies stirring in the media every time. These are seven of the biggest scandals Ghana saw this year.
The Asamoah Gyan-Sarah Kwablah Sodomy Scandal
The Black Stars’ skipper was hit with a sodomy scandal this year. A certain Sarah Kwablah accused Gyan of forcibly sodomizing her. Gyan had allegedly had a relationship with the lady which resulted in a pregnancy. She, through her lawyer Maurice Ampaw, was therefore requesting a furnished apartment, a housemaid and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for postnatal care from Asamoah Gyan.
As proof of their relationship, she released some audio files alleged to have been her conversations with Gyan and even threatened to release a sextape and more audio files if Gyan failed to grant her request. But the Black Stars captain refused to accept the conditions describing the girl’s action as blackmail.
Anas’ Ghana in the Eyes of God
Ghana’s judiciary arm suffered a dent on its image when investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas released a video implicating 34 supreme court judges and over a hundred judiciary service staff in a bribery and corruption scandal. There were reports of some judges who had heart attacks after the news broke. The world turned its focus to Ghana and many of the judges were shamed.
Even after the said videos, a couple of the judges fought back and sued Anas and his Tiger PI team for various reasons. The Office of the Chief Justice is currently reviewing the case and already, a dozen of the judges have been suspended indefinitely by the Vice President.
The KKD Rape Saga
Fashion Icon, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah suffered a heavy blow when Ewuraffe Orleans-Thompson accused him of forcibly having sex with her during the “Rip The Runway Fashion Show” at the African Regent Hotel.
KKD spent 19 days in custody at the Airport Police Station and was later granted a GH¢20,000 bail with two sureties from the Human Rights Court based on humanitarian grounds.
Miss Orleans-Thompson, however, withdrew the case from court citing personal reasons.
The Kwaw Kesse ‘Wee’ Arrest
Kwaw Kesse, the man insane, was arrested in November 2014 by the Kumasi Police for smoking marijuana at Plus 2 Pub, Nhyiaso. He was in remand for over a month where he took ill and spent days at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He was finally freed in April 2015 after serving a day in jail and paying a fine of Gh¢1,200 .
Miss Universe Ghana Rigging Scandal
The pageant show got its fair share of scandals when evidence came out suggesting that winners were handpicked even before the contest. The email evidence alleged that 25-yr old Hilda Akua Frimpong paid her way through to be crowned Miss Universe Ghana.
Afriyie Acquah-Amanda/Jordan Ayew
The marriage between Black Stars player Afriyie Acquah and his wife, Amanda became the subject of discussion in the media when a leaked audio tape came out. In the tape, Amanda claimed she slept with her husband’s co-player, Jordan Ayew. According to her, Jordan’s manhood was bigger than that of her husband. She went on to claim that Afriyie Acquah is not fertile, daring him to divorce her if he was fertile.
The millionaire was disgraced by his ex-wife (Amanda Acquah) who is also his baby mama . According to an audio file released by Amanda, , Kenpong was never able to satisfy her in bed during the seven years that they were married.
That was not all, she descended on Kenpong’s girlfriend at the time, Mona, popularly known as Hajia4Real, a young lady mostly known for her extravagant lifestyle which documents on her Instagram page. Amanda called Mona names on the audio. According to the tape, Mona had slept with Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Emmanuel Adebayor and several other sakawa boys.
It’s been an interesting year and although we don’t wish scandals on anyone in the coming year, it is obvious these public figures can’t seem to stay away from them. So around this same time next year, we will be here to give you a roundup of the scandals that hit us in 2016.
